Revoked Donates Skateboards to Local Students at 10th Annual Skate for the Kids Day

Donated skateboard to Ocean Beach Students

Fundraiser for Ocean Beach Elementary marks its tenth year fostering a love of skating in local school kids while contributing to their education.

Revoked donates skateboards to Ocean Beach Surf & Skate Shop and the Ocean Beach Elementary PTA who are partnering to host the 10th Annual Skate for the Kids fundraiser on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 12-3 p.m. at Robb Field Skate Park. This event serves as a fun way to bring the community together, foster a love of skating, and encourage healthy habits while supporting our beloved neighborhood school.

“Providing rich educational programs and a positive learning environment is critical for developing the next generation of strong, creative individuals. This annual event raises funds to provide classroom materials, enriching programs, and many other needs for the children of OB Elementary. Each year we rely on local community-minded businesses for their gracious support to make Skate for the Kids Day a success,” stated Jessica Fernandez, president of the OB Elementary PTA.

The event will have live music from local bands and DJs, a free skateboarding clinic provided by Ocean Beach Surf & Skate, youth and adult skate contests, Hodad’s burgers and other food for sale, and a silent auction and raffle with prizes from dozens of local OB and San Diego businesses. Ocean Beach has long been characterized by its strong sense of community and this event is a wonderful reminder of the support that residents and businesses give to one another.

The day will kick off with a clinic to teach beginners skate form and basic tricks. Later, more experienced skaters are invited to enter the skate contests and compete for prizes. Attendees will have the chance to bid on items in the silent auction and buy tickets for several raffles that will be held throughout the day. The event wraps up with a skate jam where some of OB’s most talented skaters will show off their best tricks. All proceeds from the event will go to the Ocean Beach Elementary PTA to fund programs, materials, and campus improvements.

“Events like these offer a great way to engage kids in a fun, active hobby while supporting our children’s expanded education,” said Roger Caldwell, owner of Ocean Beach Surf & Skate and sister company Ocean Experience Surf School. Caldwell is a life-long OB resident and his children attend local OB schools. His hope is to bring this type of fundraising event to additional local schools to support enriching programs for their students.
